Marching Baritone
What are the pain differences between a silver marching baritone and a silver marching sousaphone?
I played marching baritone from freshman year of High School through sophomore year. Now I want to switch to marching sousaphone, but I'm very concerned about the pain. I'm leaving to band camp tomorrow and when I march the baritone in band camp I experience pain in my mid back, arms and shoulders. I know my left shoulder will hurt when marching the sousa, but what else could potentially hurt and how badly. I'm about five foot nine and weigh about 125 pounds and a male. What can I do to lessen the pain?
You have a pinched nerve causing the pain for it's radiating the pain out to your shoulder for the problems there. When a nerve gets pinched it tightens up the muscles around it to trap the nerve into the pain. To get rid of the pain you have to free up your back muscles to release the nerve and here's how to free them up:

(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
