Horn Mouthpiece
What are some good brands for French horn and mellophone mouthpieces?
I have two Schilkes, one a 31B and one a 27. There's also the King Mello 6 that came with the mellophone I'm using. I can hit higher notes with the mello mouthpiece but I can produce a prettier sound with the French horn mouthpieces.
Are there any better brands?
This is one of those "Brands don't matter" type of answers. 99% of all mouthpieces are made of brass with silver plating. The only difference between them is the shape of the cup, the rim and the size of the bore. But you take a "perfect" mouthpiece from one person and it doesn't work for somebody else. because people are more different than mouthpieces are. So, forget about brands and just try every mouthpiece you can try until you find one that really agrees with you.
