What is considered a good oboe case cover?
I have an Yamaha intermediate model oboe (YOB 421) with the dimensions of 13 1/2" (L) x 7 1/4" (W) and about 3" (H).
The Yamaha oboes come in a hard case with a thin separate case cover. My oboe suffered in the Canadian winter (with the temperature drop and low humidity) and cracked. This year, I'm looking to buy a case cover with more protection.
What is considered a good case cover? Is shearling a must or is synthetic just as good?
Are there any good cover models out there that ships cheaply to Canada and falls under $100?
(Also what is the difference between a French style case and other cases? Yamaha doesn't seem to produce its own line of upgraded case covers so which model would this Yamaha fit into?)
Oh excellent question! I'm an oboe major in college and certainly go with the "Jean Cavillaro" oboe case cover. If you play a wooden oboe especially, it is waterproof and keeps the temperature regulated for when you walk outside to the car and travel.
