American Heritage
Why is it American citizens with an African heritage refer to themselves as African American?
I do not refer myself as English American, Polish American, Russian American. Where did this begin? It seems that if one referred to themselves, no matter what their heritage, as American, we would all be one, instead of a little angle thrown in on the deal. There would seem that all races would be equal...American.

African Americans or Black Americans are citizens or residents of the United States who have origins in any of the black populations of Africa.[3] In the United States, the terms are generally used for Americans with at least partial Sub-Saharan African ancestry.
